      Hello Ann,

As an option, you may apply for a tourist visa to Thailand. However, you will need to get a re-entry permit or multiple-entry permit if planning to leave Thailand for more than once within the period of visa validity. This is needed to prevent your visa from getting cancelled.

Depending on your nationality, you may also be permitted to stay inside Thailand for up to 30 days per entry if entering the country without a visa. To know if you are qualified for the visa exempt stamp, please go to the page below:

My son-in-law passport runs out in January 2016. Can he get another Thailand passport in Australia or does he have to go to Thailand? He only turned 18 in May.

The passport validity requirement by the immigration in Thailand is at least 6 months prior to the date of travel. If your son-in-law is travelling to Thailand after July 2015, we strongly suggest that he applies for a passport before his travel.
